A Dreamy Bed & Breakfast Escape On the Coast of Maine

As the cold weather starts to wane on the East Coast, we’re reminiscing about our stay at Captain Nickels Inn: an idyllic bed & breakfast that afforded amazing views right on the coast of Maine.

Our travels have taken us from Portland to Bar Harbor, and trust us when we say driving between the two is worth it especially when there is charming lodging like this along the way!

The Property

Located on Penobscot Bay in the town of Searsport, Maine, Captain Nickels Inn is a historical building that was converted into an inn in 2019 by a mother daughter duo. The multi-storied house has a beautiful butter yellow exterior boasting a wrap around porch, common spaces to hang out, and 10 spacious rooms/suites.

The property is well manicured, with a grand lawn that stretches behind the inn leading to the waterfront. There are lawn chairs placed around for guests to sit and enjoy the view (we loved watching the sunset from here). They also have lawn games and board games, as well as a tavern that’s open for happy hours and snacks in the afternoon.

We highly recommend taking time to relax and enjoy the property. Whether indoors or outdoors, there are so many cozy and picturesque spots to hang out.

The Accommodations

Inside the inn we found clean and well-furnished rooms that came with all the amenities we needed for our stay. Our room had tall ceilings, so much space for luggage, and tons of natural light.

Each room in the bed & breakfast has its own style, whether it’s the antique furniture or whimsical wallpaper. We love this type of accommodation because it really feels so cozy and like we’re saying at someone’s home. We’re also big fans of fireplaces and many of the rooms come with electric fireplaces as well.

The common area also featured cozy couches to sink into and self-serve drinks (peep these cute mugs that are made especially for the inn)!

The Food & Drink

When it comes to on property dining, options are limited. Apart from the tavern that does not stay open late, there are no other options for dining/drinks on the property.

In the morning though, breakfast is provided and served in a beautiful dining space that overlooks the lawn. Coffees and teas are included as well as a main that changes daily. During our stay, we had fresh fruit and waffles with turkey bacon! You can also choose to dine outside on their patio.

Final Thoughts

All in all, our short but memorable stay at Captain Nickels Inn was a lodging highlight of our Maine trip. It makes a great base for activities in the area, and is just over 50 miles from Bar Harbor. We’ll definitely be using this as a base for a trip in the future!
