Los Cabos is a beautiful destination for travelers looking to get away from it all. The Baja Peninsula is dotted with resorts and properties that afford oceanfront views and are conveniently situated between the two towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.
On a recent girls trip, we decided to stay at The Cape in Los Cabos and could not recommend the property more. Our review of this stunning hotel covers the top notch food and amenities that make it a perfect escape in Los Cabos for friends, couples, or even a solo trip.
Booking
The Cape is one of Hyatt’s properties under the Thompson Hotels portfolio. Hyatt is currently running a 2 night promo for all Thompson properties (through June 10) so if you’re a Hyatt member looking for a hotel to stay in, now is a great time to check out their Thompson properties.
At The Cape, every room has a view of the ocean, whether full or partial. This means you’ll be ocean-front throughout the entire property so you can’t really go wrong here.
For Chase and Hyatt members, this hotel is also a great deal on points given that it’s a Category 7 hotel and base room rates can be $500+ a night, or $700+ during peak season.
The Property
Once you pass through the gates of The Cape, you’ll find yourself directly facing their beautiful open air lobby. Imagine hearing waves crashing behind you and feeling the ocean breeze as you check in. There couldn’t be a better welcome.
On the property are two pools, the main infinity pool with a swim up bar and a smaller, more secluded saltwater pool. The infinity pool is the main lounging space with all the chairs, but the saltwater pool feels unique due to the way it curves behind rock formations.
There is also beachfront access at the hotel, but as with many other beaches in the area, it is not recommended as a swimmable beach.
But if lounging by the pool isn’t enough, you can also check out the Currents Spa, which has its own private pools, or one of The Cape’s many bars. More on those below.
The Rooms
Our room was a two queen bed with an ocean view, and let me tell you, it was so spacious. I love when rooms come with ample seating and this room did not disappoint. Not only did we have two huge armchairs and table across from the beds, but there was also a separate sitting area at the end of the room, and swings with a patio table outside.
The bathroom is stocked with amenities in their signature scent, which is divine. You can also expect a separate water closet.
Since we travelled as a group of friends, one aspect of the rooms we paid extra attention to was the glass paneled shower. It is a frosted glass on the side that faces the bedroom, and clear on the bathroom side. This was no problem for us, but if you are planning to share the room with someone this might be something to consider. The frosted area of the glass was definitely enough coverage so that nothing is visible from the bedroom, but it’s certainly not the same as having a wall there.
The Spa
We were so excited about the Currents Spa and it turned out to be our favorite part of the hotel! Booking ahead is recommended and they offer a ton of options from massages to facials to salon services.
After checking in and donning our robes, we walked through a cavernous tunnel and emerged to an unobstructed view of El Arco in the distance. This area is only accessible to spa visitors, so it is the picture of tranquility. The space has a regular pool, cold plunge, and sauna. Plus loungers and chairs that face the ocean. As we sipped on fruit infused waters, we were quickly led to the treatment rooms, which are located down a hallway in another tranquil space.
The interior of the treatment room itself was a bit bare for how lovely the rest of the spa was. It had dark colored walls and ceilings, but very little decor. I didn’t notice any florals or candles to soften up the space and give it a touch of luxury.
After our treatments, we were led back out to the spa pool area and enjoyed a little post-massage treat on the loungers. We proceeded to relax in the private pools and essentially had the entire area to ourselves! I’d highly recommend making a booking at the spa with enough time to enjoy the privacy here, as it felt like our little slice of heaven for a couple hours.
The Food & Drink
After a day of relaxation, we got dressed and headed to dinner at Manta. The on-site restaurant from acclaimed chef Enrique Olvera (of Pujol in CDMX and Cosme in NYC) is in a beautifully designed space that offers indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for the set menu and had an absolutely delicious time, plus the balcony afforded front row seats to view the most stunning sunset.
During our stay, we also got to dine at The Ledge for breakfast and lunch. It also offers ocean-front views alongside a spread of menu options that range from Mexican classics like chilaquiles and enchiladas, to American fare like açai bowls and an avocado toast bar.
Definitely don’t miss happy hour at The Rooftop either. The vantage point is beautiful up there and it’s another great place to hangout while watching the sunset.
Final Thoughts
By the end of our stay, we’d all agreed that this was what a blissful escape should feel like. Hopefully this review has convinced you to not pass up a stay at The Cape on your next trip to Cabo.
If you’re looking for great food and like the idea of a more intimate property with stunning views, check out this property or even just swing by for drinks and admire the view.
